In the past I had this issue with a collection of Line 6 plugins, something would crash on the bulk scan at startup, but for some reason when I did the one-by-one approach described above none of them crashed and once they were in the plugin in database they never caused another problem. In such a case, you can disable third party plug-ins on startup to identify, if the plug-in is the reason.
